  5. Early Life • Abraham’s step-mother encouraged him to get an education • He loved to read and would walk miles to borrow a new book • Lincoln was not just a “bookworm” he also chopped wood, wrestled, & piloted flat boats to New Orleans • Volunteered for the Black Hawk War

  6. Lincoln married Mary Todd on November 4, 1841 The couple will have 4 sons Robert, Edward, William, and Thomas.
