A few words on HEPiX • See HEPiX web pages at • http://wwwhepix.web.cern.ch/wwwhepix/ • And Alan Silverman’s Overview on the HEPiX home page • HEPiX started in 1991 (similar to earlier HEPVM) • Since 1999, HEPNT associated and then merged -> • “HEPiX-HEPNT” • HEPNT name no longer appropriate (Windows NT) • But HEPiX still covers all operating systems (and Grid) • Meets twice a year (Europe/North America) • Two coordinators • WojciechWojcik (IN2P3) and Chuck Boeheim (SLAC) • Special Interest Groups exist • e.g. Large Cluster SIG – this week’s Mass Storage Workshop • Typical format: 3 days HEPiX + 1.5 days SIG (on a theme) D.P.Kelsey, Introduction, HEPiX, Edinburgh, 2004

Logistics (2) • Agenda is very full • Speakers please keep to time! • Presentations will be loaded to agenda page (in advance) • And present from the one central PC • Send/Give to me via e-mail, USB memory stick, … • As soon as possible (day before?) • If plan to give demonstrations from your own PC and need a network connection • Register MAC address to use ethernet wire • Test it in advance! • We are recording most sessions (video and audio) • Plan to make available on web as streaming video • But not this week! • Please e-mail me with votes for talks to be transferred first D.P.Kelsey, Introduction, HEPiX, Edinburgh, 2004
