SUMMARY • When Hamlet is alone at the castle he is very bitter and envious of an actor after seeing him portray something that connects with him so deeply and that the performance was able to bring feelings out of him, he was never able to bring out by himself. He worries that people may say he is crazy if he tells them what the ghost of his father said so he decides to create a play that shows a man killing his brother, the king, showcasing what the ghost of his father told him about Claudius murdering him to obtain the throne.

  3. SUMMARY CONT.... • Hamlet hopes it will bring the guilt of murdering his father out of Claudius. “The play’s the thing wherein I’ll catch the conscience of the King” (II, ii, 136). He decides to do this after hearing about people attending plays and confessing to their crimes, having been affected by the realism of their situations they have seen on stage. “I have heard that guilty creatures sitting at a play have, by the very cunning of the scene, been struck so to the soul that presently they have proclaimed their malefactions (II, ii, 136).

  4. Commentary • Hamlet decided to out on a play showcasing what happened to his father after seeing a performance that brought emotion out of him because he feels its a good way to expose the truth behind his fathers death. We think he will put on the play and something will go wrong. We think his plotting will not go as he hoped it would and something bad will happen when Claudius see’s the performance. • We agree with Hamlet’s decision to put on the play because its a good way to expose of Claudius’ supposed wrongdoing. We think Hamlets decision is the a good way to handle it because it not confrontational and given lack of evidence he has besides the fact the ghost of his “father” is the only proof he has of Claudius’ actions and people would call him mad if he mentioned the ghosts tale.
