  2. What is Kenpo • Kenpo is believed to be one of the first forms of martial arts. • It is believed to have started over a thousand years ago in china.

  3. Usage • In the Japanese culture Kenpo is used to designate Chinese martial arts. Kenpo is more commonly known as kung fu in America.

  4. American Kenpo • The name for Kenpo was developed in Hawaii along with many other common martial arts. In America Kenpo is also called Kenpo Karate. A different branch of Kenpo is used on the east coast and was created by Nick Cerio. Since then the east coast version has been modified.

  5. History • Kenpo was was brought over about 700 years ago from China to Japan by the Yoshida Clan and after that was soon adapted by the Komatsu Clan. The Japanse version was used to defend themselves from other unarmed Japanese martial arts. Today in China there is no martial art that resembles Kenpo.

  6. Rankings • There is a belt ranking system in Kenpo like many other martial arts. white, yellow, orange, purple, blue, green, third kyu brown, second kyu brown, first kyu brown, and first through tenth black.

  7. Ed Parker • Ed Parker is believed to have brought Kenpo to the United States. • He was born and raised in Hawaii and learned Kenpo from Frank Chow.
