National Honor Society: • Candidates must be a junior or senior; • Candidates must have a cumulative scholastic average of 3.3 over 5 trimesters; • Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, character, and scholarship; and • Candidates are inducted in the spring of the sophomore school year.

  13. A Tradition of Excellence! DECA: • Prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools around the globe! • Bremen is in their 9th year of having a DECA chapter.  7 of the 9 years BHS Students have qualified for and competed at ICDC (International Career Development Conference) in Los Angeles, Orlando, Salt Lake City, Louisville, Atlanta and Dallas. In 2009 and 2010 BHS earned the District 2 Sweepstakes award for having the highest number of winners advance to the State competition. • Our first year we started with 13 students who knew nothing about DECA…this year our membership is at 58. • Any BHS Student enrolled in a business course is eligible to join.  Students work on skills such as teamwork, public speaking and critical thinking.  • ANY student interested in pursuing a degree in Business is encouraged to join! • See www.deca.org and www.indianadeca.org for more information.

  15. A Tradition of Excellence! Bremen Band Program • Last year, the band earned the Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) instrumental “All Music” Award for its excellence in all facets of this program.  This is an award given yearly to less than 10% of schools in Indiana based on accomplishments in Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Concert Band. • The band at the middle school and high school level has earned superior ratings at the highest difficulty level at the yearly ISSMA concert band festival.  Out of several hundred schools that performed last year, we were the only school with an enrollment under 600 that achieved this distinction. • Our Marching Band were Semi-State Finalists two years ago, a first for the Bremen Band program.  • Over 100 students participated in the Solo/Ensemble festival last year.  14 students qualified for the state level competition by receiving superior ratings at the highest difficulty level.

  17. A Tradition of Excellence! The Bremen Community revealed its support for the Class of 2013 by awarding more than $97,775.00 in local scholarships.

  21. The 21st Century Scholars Program Take a Step Toward Your Future

  22. What is Expected of a 21st Century Scholar Students enrolled in the 21st Century Scholars Program must honor the 21st Century Scholar Pledge.

The Scholar Pledge • I will graduate with at least a Core 40 Diploma from a high school accredited by the Indiana Department of Education. • I will achieve a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. • I will apply for admission to an eligible Indiana college, university or proprietary institution as a high school senior. • I will apply on time for state and federal student financial aid (by March 10 of my senior year of high school). • I will not use illegal drugs or alcohol, or commit a crime or delinquent act. • I will participate in the Scholar Success Program to help plan, prepare and pay for college success.

  25. Who is Eligible? To enroll in the 21st Century Scholars program, you must: • Be a resident of Indiana as an applicant and as a scholarship recipient (determined by the residency of your parent or legal guardian); • Be a US citizen or an eligible non-citizen; • Be enrolled in the 7th or 8th grade at a charter school, freeway school or other Indiana school accredited by the Indiana Department of Education; • Agree to fulfill the 21st Century Scholars Pledge; • Meet income eligibility requirements. .

What Information Do I Need to Apply? • Student’s Social Security Number, date of birth, and address; • Parent or guardian’s Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, if applicable; • 2013 gross income amounts for all members of the household (if applying before December 31, 2013, please use 2012 gross income); • A valid email address.

  27. How Do I Apply? • Apply online at Scholars.IN.gov or see your middle school guidance counselor for help • The deadline to apply is June 30 of your 8th grade year!

  30. Challenges • Verified Credits Required for Graduation Earned by: - Passing the course AND - Passing the End-of-Course Assessments (Algebra and English 10) • Be familiar with the requirements for graduation and ask questions! • Meet with your guidance counselor regularly.

  31. Academic Expectations • Students will take charge of their education. • Students will seek out and make-up missed work right away. • Students will ask for help when needed. • Students will do their best work to pass ALL classes.

  32. Credits • High School Schedule = 3 semesters in a school year (trimesters) • 5 classes each trimester for 70 minutes each • Each class each trimester is worth one (1) credit if passed • 47 credits to graduate

Core 40 Diploma • 8 credits in English (English 9, English 10, English 11, and English 12 (Regular or Honors)) • 6 credits in Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2) • All students must now take a Math or Quantitative Reasoning course EACH year of high school. • 6 credits in Science (Biology 1, Chemistry OR Physics OR Integrated Chemistry/Physics, and 1 Core 40 science elective)

Core 40 Diploma • 6 credits in Social Studies (World History, US History, Government, and Economics) • 2 credits in Physical Education • 1 credit in Health • 4 credits in Practical Arts ( Preparing for College and Careers, Personal Financial Responsibility, and 2 credits from the areas of Industrial Technology, Agriculture, FACS, or Business)

  41. From the Math Department Recommended Calculator: Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS It is a very good calculator, easy to use, and students should be able to use it throughout high school.It will usually be on sale for around $10 in late July or early August.

  42. Academic Honors Diploma Everything from the Core 40 plus: • 6 credits in Spanish • 2 additional math credits (8 total) • Minimum GPA of 3.0 • NO final grade lower than a C • Total Credits = 50

Academic Honors Diploma Complete one of the following: • Earn 4 credits in 2 or more AP courses and take corresponding AP exams • Earn 6 verifiable transcripted college credits in dual credit courses from the approved dual credit list. • Earn two of the following: • A minimum of 3 verifiable transcripted college credits from the approved dual credit list, • 2 credits in AP courses and corresponding AP exams, • Earn a combined score of 1750 or higher on the SAT critical reading, mathematics and writing sections and a minimum score of 530 on each • Earn an ACT composite score of 26 or higher and complete written section

Technical Honors Diploma Everything from the Core 40 plus: • Minimum GPA of 3.0 • NO final grade lower than a C • Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway and one of the following: • State approved, industry recognized certification or credential, or • Pathway dual credits from the approved dual credit list resulting in 6 transcripted college credits

Technical Honors Diploma Complete one of the following: • Any one of the options (A - F) of the Core 40 with Academic Honors • Earn the following scores or higher on WorkKeys; Reading for Information – Level 6, Applied Mathematics – Level 6, and Locating Information-Level 5. • Earn the following minimum score(s) on Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, Math 75. • Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass; Algebra 66 , Writing 70, Reading 80. Total Credits = 47

  46. Optional College Credit Dual Credit Courses = HS + College Credit at the same time through IUSB. Cost: $25 per credit hour. • NOTE: You will have a transcript on file with IUSB that shows your college course credits. AP Course = Advanced Placement • Students pay a fee to take the AP Exam

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs • There are 11 Indiana state approved Career Clusters, and each Cluster includes multiple pathways • The Indiana College and Career Pathways provide an aligned sequence of secondary and post-secondary courses leading to an industry-recognized credential, technical certification, or an associate of baccalaureate degree at an accredited postsecondary institution for careers that are high wage and/or high demand in Indiana
