This project aims to promote adoption of suicide prevention best practices to reduce local and statewide suicides, tailor practices to local needs, and gain recognition through the Best Practices Registry. A joint effort of SPRC and AFSP, this initiative follows a timeline that started with needs assessments and includes key informant interviews. The project identifies priority populations, barriers to services, and strategies such as media campaigns, cultural competence, mobile units for crisis screenings, and education for various groups. Data on current suicide rates and community assessments inform the effort, with the goal of submitting six best practices to the SPRC by January 2014.
