Web NavigatorThe example of the mechanical database Review of electrical drawings for the LHC superconducting circuits H. Prin May, 24th 2011
History • Initially developed in 1996 by M. Mottier for P. Lefevre to get an interactive vision of the machine layout using CGM format • The current version of the navigator was developed in 1999 and was placed in operation in 2000 for the LHC optics version 6.2 (6 versions approved since) • DWF files are computed with AutoCAD R14 to get the visualization • HTML, Javascriptand Whip! Plug-in are used to get the page layout and the interactions with the drawing layers, named views, links, information… • Since the initial developments almost no revision to follow AutoCAD updates nor HTML specification versions • When it was developed it has to work on all platforms supported by CERN: Windows, Mac, Unix; whatever the navigator: Internet Explorer, Netscape Direct link: http://www.cern.ch/lhc/lhc/layouts/v65/top_me.htm
Remarks • Since AutoCAD 2004, the DWF format used in the Web Navigator is no longer available • Whip! Plug-in is no longer supported: • Works with Internet Explorer • No longer compatible with Netscape, Chrome, Opera, Safari… • Only 256 colors are supported • All Stephen’s drawings have to be adapted • QA policy: the file used to generate the DWF has to be the one uploaded for the CDD archiving) • The current soft use (DWF + HTML + Javascript + Whip! Plug-in) is tested, proven, light and robust BUT it’s 12 years old. • Example of what could be done: Click
