Goals • Create an environment in Kearney that offers better types of housing opportunities for all. • Build environments that allow people from all parts of the city to participate in its growth and development. • Create community connections that will unite neighborhoods of the city. • Assure that each neighborhood in Kearney remains healthy. • Assure that each neighborhood provides a good residential environment for its residents.
Primary Housing Challenges • Development of affordable equity housing to meet needs of new residents. • Affordability of housing to low-income households. • Maintenance of the structural integrity of older homes and the quality of Kearney’s existing housing supply.
Addressing the Challenges • Housing Partnership • Creative partnerships w/ developers and financial institutions • Public Improvement Financing • Creative financing for improvement or installation on new infrastructure • Retirement Housing • Continued demand as population ages • Free up existing affordable housing • Neighborhood Conservation • Preserve existing housing, especially important when shortage of affordable housing • Variety of Housing Types • Offer multiple housing types to accommodate higher densities • Manufactured Home Development • Can help meet the need for affordable housing • Subdivision development should be plan to prevent isolation and to encourage blending with surrounding neighborhoods
