Situation: Heavily perspiring surgeons allow their sweat to fall on the sterile field. • Issue: Sterility/ Infection Prevention • How is it harmful: It contaminates the sterile field making the patient at risk for infection • Solution: Fix the air-conditioning units. Surgeons should wary if they are sweating too much. Consider appropriate prophylactic antibiotics.

  2. Situation: Surgeons/assists on standby fall asleep, soak their gowns in sweat, roam around, and touch unsterile areas. • Issue: Sterility/ Infection Prevention • How is it harmful: It contaminates the surgeons/assists, risking infecting the patient when they scrub back in. • Solution: Provide more gowns. Scrub out when on stand-by especially if it will take long.
