What is CareConnect? • CareConnect: • Is UCLA’s electronic health record (EHR) program • Integrates inpatient and outpatient clinical records with appointments, registration, billing, and other business-related functions • Is a single system that will integrate the functions of 65 current systems • Is based on software provided by Epic Systems Corp., which is modified to accommodate how we work at UCLA Health System

  3. Why are we implementing CareConnect? • Leadership believes CareConnect will take us to the next level of excellence as a worldwide leader in health care.

  4. How will CareConnect make my job easier? • CareConnect presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the way care is delivered by integrating systems.

  5. How will CareConnect affect patient care? • CareConnect will enhance quality, improve safety, and standardize patients’ experience of care wherever they are seen.

  6. CareConnect requires, supports, and will drive system-wide transformation By the numbers: • 4 hospitals • Ronald Reagan Medical Center • Santa Monica Medical Center & Orthopaedic Hospital • Mattel Children’s Hospital • Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital • 150+ clinics, ~200 ambulatory “sites” • ~ 15,000 end users • 1,ooo+ participants in validation/work groups/advisory groups • ~ 65 legacy systems going into hibernation

Is somebody from my department involved? • We’ve brought the right people to the table to make the 1,000s of decisions necessary to ensure that you’ll be able to do your job using CareConnect: • 100s participated in site visits where our software vendor gained a basic understanding of how we work at UCLA Health System • 1,000 have helped validate workflows that CareConnect meet our business and clinical needs • 100s are diving deeper into developing workflows and clinical content: • Subject-matter experts • Advisory Groups • Work groups

Who will use CareConnect? • An estimated 15,000 faculty and staff members will use CareConnect, including: • Physicians • Pharmacists • Nurses • Advanced-practice nurses • Other clinicians • Staff members working with scheduling, registration, billing, patient placement (ADT), and hospital information management (HIM) • Trainees (fellows, residents, interns) • Students

What can I do now? • Get going by registering at Epic System Corp.’s website and follow these steps: • Log onto userweb.epic.com • Follow instructions to register for access • Wait for account verification email • Access userweb • Click on Home • Click on Training • Click on eLearnings for a list of modules according to care setting and role • A good starting point: • For ambulatory - the EpicCare Ambulatory AMB001 - a high-level office visit demonstration. Duration: 10 minutes • For inpatient - the EpicCare Inpatient INO001a - physician rounding overview; review a patient's current hospitalization. Duration: 10 min
