  2. Speed (s) • Speed = distance/time • Many units – look at the problem • m/s, km/hr, m/min, mi/hr

  3. Acceleration (a) Acceleration = final speed – starting speed time Units vary as well, pay attention to the problem m/s2, km/hr2

  4. Average Speed • Average Speed = total distance total time Units are the same for speed m/s, km/hr, etc.

  5. Net Force • Sum of all forces • Add for same direction • Subtract for opposite directions • UNIT: Newton (N)

  6. Force • Force = mass x acceleration • F=ma • Newtons (N)

  7. Mechanical Energy • ME = potential + kinetic • ME = PE + KE • Joules (J)

  8. Kinetic Energy • KE = ½ mass x velocity2 • KE = 1/2mv2 • Joules (J)

  9. Potential Energy • GPE = mass x gravity x height • GPE = mgh • g=10 m/s2 • Joules (J)
