FTMSA • Established in December 1967 by Franklin Township Supervisors • Treatment facility initial operation commenced May 1970 • Franklin Township becomes Municipality of Murrysville in 1978 • Facility doubled capacity in 1984, upgraded to advanced secondary treatment in 1992 and added an additional sludge process in 2005

FTMSA PURPOSE • Regulate all sanitary sewer service within its service area including all of Murrysville • Efficiently operate the sanitary sewage treatment facility located in Murrysville • Provide for the efficient cost effective transportation and treatment of sewage generated in its service area • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

FTMSA Established in 1968, the Authority’s sanitary sewer conveyance and collection system consists of approximately 327.5 miles of sewer lines, 5 sewage regulators, 7 pump stations, and 253.5 miles of collector in the Municipality of Murrysville. The Authority is also responsible for the maintenance of 23.1 miles of collector sewer in Delmont, 3.4 miles of collector sewer in Monroeville, 23.5 miles of collector sewer and 3 pump stations in Penn Twp., 19.0 miles of collector sewer and 3 pump stations in Salem Twp., and 5 miles of collector sewers in Export Borough.

FTMSA The Authority’s treatment facility on Meadowbrook Road is an aerobic biological treatment facility with grit removal, primary clarification, trickling filters, secondary clarification, nitrification towers, shallow bed sand filtration units, ultraviolet disinfection, sludge thickening, anaerobic biological sludge stabilization, sludge dewatering, and methane gas utilization facilities. The permitted hydraulic capacity of the facility is 4.90 million gallons per day and daily operations average approximately 3.41 million gallons.

  13. FTMSA During its most recent operational year, approximately 13,278 feet of additional sewer lines were constructed in the following areas: Municipality of Murrysville ----Shag Bark Grove, Murrysville Community Park and Bianca Rose Plan.

FTMSA Major Action Items in 2010 • Refinanced Series of 2004 and 2005 Bond Issues. • Completed replacement VFD’s and other work at Main pump station • Started a new program of inspecting sewer laterals prior to the sale of real estate in Murrysville. • Added two new employees for above sewer lateral inspections.
