Language Learning Opportunities in Washington High Schools: Equity and Access

This presentation examines the distribution of language learning opportunities across Washington high schools as reported in the 2007 MELL Survey from 39 counties. It highlights that over 80% of schools offer two or more years of a world language, with Spanish being the most widely taught. However, significant disparities exist, particularly for languages like Arabic, which was reported as not being offered in any county. The essential question posed is whether these educational opportunities are equitably distributed state-wide, impacting student access to diverse language education.
