  4. Joseph: Man of Character • His story is told in Gen. 37-50 • He is the 11th son born to Jacob by Rachel (30:24-25; 35:24) • His story proper covers 93 years, from age 17 to 110

  5. Joseph: Man of Character • He was faithful (trustworthy) • He was faithful during different ages, from 17 to 110 • He was faithful in different locations, from Hebron to Egypt

  6. Joseph: Man of Character • He was faithful in all circumstances, from pit, to prisoner, to Prime Minister • He was faithful in all responsibilities, from feeding flocks to being governor of Egypt

  7. Joseph: Man of Character • Good character is developed when a person is hated without a cause and still acts decently and properly (37:4,11,18)

  8. Joseph: Man of Character • Like Jesus, there was no retaliation, only faithful obedience (Jn. 15:24-25; 1 Pet. 2:21-23) • How will you act in the face of mistreatment (Mt. 5:38-42; Rom. 12:17-21)?

  9. Joseph: Man of Character • Good character is developed when a person is successful and still lives with integrity and with godly values (39:2, 9, 23; 40:8; 41:16, 28, 32, 37-45)

  10. Joseph: Man of Character • Like Jesus, there was no pride, only faithful living in God’s sight (Mt. 3:13 – 4:11) • How will you act in the face of success (1 Tim. 6:17-19)?

  11. Joseph: Man of Character • Good character is developed when a person experiences bad things in life and still submits to God’s will (37:28; 39:14-18; 40:23; 41:50-52; 45:4-9; 50:15-26; see Heb. 11:22)

  12. Joseph: Man of Character • Like Jesus, there was no bitterness, only faithful trust in God’s plan (Mt. 26:39) • How will you act in the face of bad things (Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:8; Jas. 1:3; 1 Pet. 1:7)?

  13. Character Today • Character = acting properly even when you are hated without a cause • Character = acting properly even when you are successful

  14. Character Today • Character = acting properly even when bad things happen to you and you may not understand it all

  15. Character Today • Forged in the crucible of life’s circumstances, bad or good • Centered in faith and trust in God • Devoted to serving with honor, dependability, and trustworthiness

  16. Character Today • Undeterred by hatred and betrayal; forgiving • Seeing “the big picture” of God’s providence

  17. Character Today • Are you faithful (trustworthy) in all things? Do you have true, Bible character?
