  2. HSS Graduation Requirement • Completion of 126 AUs in: • General Education Requirements (GER) – 57 AUs • Major Requirements – 69 AUs

  3. General Education Requirement • Consists of 3 Sub-areas (57 AUs): • GER-Core: 12 AUs • GER-PE (Prescribed Electives): 15 AUs • GER – UE (Unrestricted Electives): 30 AUs

  4. Sociology Major Requirement • Consists of 3 Sub-areas (69 AUs): • Major Core: 25 AUs • Major Electives: 36 AUs • Graduation Project: 8 AUs

Course Exemption(for Poly students*) Students are required to submit their application for course exemptions and must do so within the first semester of their enrolment in HSS; Students must read the Major Core, Major Elective and the GER-CORE courses; they cannot request for exemptions from these courses Students may apply for up to a maximum of 12 AUs exemptions and only for courses in the following categories : - up to a maximum of 6 AUs from GER electives (excluding LS) - up to a maximum of 6 AUs from the GER-Unrestricted Electives

  7. Outline of Course Enrollment (by semester) • NOTE: The following slides indicate an ideal outline for enrollment each semester. In reality, deviations may occur due to the (lack of) availability of a course, exchange/study abroad opportunities, and so on. • NOTE: Some courses may appear in brackets. This is to highlight courses which may provide an alternative to the listed course/course type. In such case, you can find the same course, unbracketed, in the prior or following semester.

Important points to note All Sociology Cores must be completed in NTU You must complete a minimum of 69 AUs of Graded Courses in NTU and your Residential Period (Physical Presence) must be at least 3 years. Students must take 11Major Electives comprising: 2 at 1000-level, 4 at 2000-level 2 at 3000-level 3 at 4000-level

  18. Important points to note • Students must complete 95 AUs, all the Major Cores and at least 8 Major Electives by the end of Year Three in order to begin the Graduation Project (HS4099). • It is recommended that students do not take more than 3 other courses during the first semester of HS4099. • vi. Students with a CGPA of less than 3.75 when entering their final year, have the option of doing TWO additional 4000-level courses instead of HS4099.

  19. Important points to note • Check your Degree Audit regularly (every semester after your exam results are released). • Exercise the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) option for Unrestricted Electives carefully (total four during undergraduate studies). • To be awarded a Minor, students must not opt for these courses to be graded Satisfactory (S) / Un-Satisfactory (U). • If you are in doubt, please check with the Sociology admin staff.

  20. Academic Integrity • The University takes academic integrity very seriously. • If you are caught cheating or plagiarizing, the penalty will be severe and could result in expulsion from the University. • Note: Plagiarism means representing someone else’s work as your own.
