DEFINITION The term autoimmune diabetes not requiring insulin at diagnosis (or LADA) is more appropriate in that the concept of latency indicates patients of adult age who do not require insulin at least for some time after diagnosis and who possess immunological and genetic features typical of type 1 diabetes.
