Ohio’s innovation economic development tool • Blue Collar Computing (BCC) provides industrial clients with supercomputing resources, training, and expertise to enhance their competitiveness • Public and private sector researchers partner to: • Accelerate product development • Promote process improvement • Solve challenging scientific and industrial / business problems • BCC Impacts Time, Quality and Cost of Product & Service Development • IBM Global Services – OSC’s partner for BCC service development and business planning

BCC Partnerships: OSC, University of Southern California Information Sciences Institute (USC/ISI), and Council on Competitiveness (CoC) OSC works closely with the CoC to promote HPC for industrial productivity OSC is part of the CoC and USC/ISI effort to create a National Innovation Collaboration Ecosystem (NICE) CoC and USC/ISI want to scale OSC BCC project up to a national level Blue Collar Computing established for focused industrial solutions

Blue Collar Computing Research Innovation Partnership with EWI • E-Weld Predictor Portal • EWI membership (80 clients, 800 CPU hours) • Significantly increases solve time for automotive, energy, and others for weld parameters • 2007 TopCAT Innovation Award Finalist for Outstanding Technology Team • PolymerOhio and KISTI (Korean Institute of Science and Technology) collaborating with OSC on related fan blade model

BCC Example: Polymer Portal in collaboration with PolymerOhio Polymers and plastics is a large industry in Ohio (2800 companies, 175,000 employees) The polymer portal is being developed to provide: Expertise in polymer science and engineering Computational resources and software for modeling and simulation Databases with relevant material properties Advanced instrumentation Training Vendor relevant material Business intelligence and strategy Established Blue Collar Computing for focused industrial solutions Software components supporting the Polymer Portal
