  2. Cyprus is situated in the north-eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, 33° east and 35° north of the Equator, 75km south of Turkey, 105km west of Syria, 380km north of Egypt and 380km east of Rhodes (Greece). About Cyprus ARIMNet Project - Agricultural Research in Cyprus

Agricultural Research System in the Public sector (1/2) • The national agricultural research system is mainly under the authority of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment (MANRE). One of its departments, namely the Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), is the only Cyprus institution engaged exclusively in agricultural research, covering the wider domain of crop and animal production. Agricultural Research System in the Public sector (2/2) • The Ministry of Education is also engaged in agricultural research, mainly through the Cyprus University of Technology (http://www.ucy.ac.cy). Two departments are relevant to agricultural research: • Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science • Department of Environmental Management • Private, Non-Profit Institutions, funded partly by the state: • The Cyprus Institute. (http://www.cyi.ac.cy) It maintains Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) ARIMNet Project - Agricultural Research in Cyprus

  5. Institutes devoted to agricultural research • The only institution devoted to agricultural research is the Agricultural Research Institute: http://www.ari.gov.cy. Its activities cover all areas of plant and animal production, agricultural economics and environmental aspects related to agriculture. • Public or private universities, or Non Profit Institutions are engaged partly in agricultural research.
