Broadcast Stations: • Broadcasting regulated by FCC • Limited channels available • Local distribution • Broad content for wide audience Cable/Satellite Channels • Cable/Satellite not regulated by FCC • Almost no limit to channels available • World-wide distribution • “Narrowcast” - can be very specialized for small audience

Film: • Can't be re-used • Needs processing • Expensive to buy and process • Sound recorded separately • 24 Frames per Second • Individual images projected quickly to look like motion • Physically cut and splice to edit • Creates a specific “look” that is softer than video • Footage shot on film is generally transferred to video for editing. 5.

Video: • Can be re-used • Can be viewed immediately – no processing • Inexpensive • Sound recorded on video • 30 Frames per Second • Electronic editing • Linear – analog video – transfer from one machine (raw footage) to a new tape (MASTER). • Non-Linear – digital video – Computer editing. • Video recorded digitally on Mini-DV tape or SD cards. 5.

  9. Videotape has two audio tracks • One video track • Control track is the “glue” that the signals stick to on the tape.  VIDEO CONTROL TRACK
