  2. Ser vs Estar- to be or ... to be Spanish has 2 verbs that mean “to be“: ser and estar They are both used very differently- Pay Attention!!

  3. Ser Estar -to tell time & give the date Ex.:¿Qué hora es? Son las cuatro. Es el cuatro de mayo. -to indicate origin; where someone is from Ex.:¿De dόndeeres? Soy de Cuba. -to give location Ex.:¿Dónde está mi libro? Está encima de la mesa. -asking about condition, or how someone is doing, how they are feeling. Ex.: ¿Cómo estás? Estoy bien. Estoy enferma. Estoy contento.

  4. Ser Estar -to talk about one‘s profession Ex.: Maria es profesora. -to indicate possession Ex.: El lápiz es de Juan Es mi computadora. -used with present progressive to describe an on going action. Ex.: Estoy hablando. Estás bailando. Estamos caminando. Estoy escribiendo cuentos.

  5. Ser -“Permanent“ traits: -nationality, -religion, -physical characteristics, -political affiliation, -what something is made of Ex.: Yo soy baja. Somos católicas. El reloj es de oro. (gold) Eres peruano.
