Dune – Desert Planet • No Precipitation falls on Arrakis • Worms are huge desert creatures that live in the deep sands of the desert • The Spice – MELANGE – (similar in color and taste to cinnamon) is found ONLY on Arrakis. It is critical to the spacing guild’s ability to fold space for travel.

The FRemen • The native people of Dune are called – Fremen • The Fremen can live in the desert with the assistance of still suits that maintain and reprocess as much of their moisture as possible. Water is the only thing of value to a Fremen. • The Fremen are very religious/ superstitious /the eat a diet rich in spice which has given them blue within blue eyes. • Chrysknife – the ritual weapon of a Fremen – ground from a worm’s tooth – very important

Sandworms • Shai-Hulud: the name of the Sandworm of Arrakis – aka the “old man of the desert” – “Old Father Eternity” and “Grandfather of the Desert” • Sandworms are also referred to as “the makers” – they create the WATER OF LIFE – an “illuminating” poison… • Water of Life – is the liquid exhalation of a sandworm produced at the moment of its death from drowning which is then changed within the body of a Reverend Mother to become the narcotic used to increase the “awareness spectrum”
