  1. Mornington Yacht Club Training Centre 2012 Yachting Australia Training Centre of the Year 2012 Victorian Yacht Club of the Year

  2. Our Aim • To be recognised as the best provider of training on the Mornington Peninsula • To be recognised as the best provider of training in Victoria. And we did it......

  3. Some brief history • Like many clubs the training offered at MYC had been provided by volunteers. • This was successful both for junior and adult classes • Although no assurance of continuity in program

  4. MYC became an accredited training centre • Introduction of the National Proficiency Scheme and then the GISBS scheme • This provided a syllabus and guidelines • Some members became qualified as assistant instructors and instructors to be able to provide these programs • Introduction of the Tackers program to MYC • Decision to employ a Training Administrator. • Restructure of the Training & Development Committee

  5. A change in direction • Time to increase the capacity of training offered at MYC • School groups • General public • School camps • Tertiary • Sailability • Member training • Can only provide so many courses throughout the season on weekends due to resources but aim to utilise as best as we could. • All staff conducting courses to be paid. YA qualifications – I / AI • Aware of the syllabus and programs pathways • Ownership to the programs • From this – commitment to program

  6. A couple of seasons.. • It has taken a couple of seasons to understand what MYC could do and offer. • Although plenty of programs, staff can still be an issue / Uni etc • Scheduling of courses to compliment yacht clubs activity • Resources • Rescue craft etc • Education and awareness to MYC members of the training that does take place at MYC, not only weekends but active during the week. • Utilisation of Mycentre for data entry, marketing and online entry

  7. That little bit more • Courses are just the start to an introduction to the yacht club • We would like membership gain from courses • Incorporate more to the programs to introduce participants to MYC • Ensure participants are introduced to committee members or members that are around during the sessions • Introduced an additional sail on another type of boat • Introduced them to additional members • Introduced to different class of boat

  8. BBQ for tackers programs • Involvement in twilight sail • Encourage club membership • Encourage enrolment in more courses • Use of club boats with their membership to enable them to practice or get involved in otb racing until boat purchased. • Very good success rate of conversion from trainee to member • Hold their hand for a while

  9. Season 2012-2013 • Club workshop for instructors to go over procedures • Support of upcoming AI and Instructors • Increase in marketing • MYC awareness of upcoming programs • Continuation of additional opportunity – holding hand • Encourage as many people to Discover Sailing with MYC.
