"An orangery can be attached to the house or it can be free-standing, whereas a conservatory is attached to the house, and has more glass, making it a room in which to sit in the summer. However, today, with the advent of the energy efficient glass that we now have, and the addition of some heating, the conservatory can be used all year round, as indeed can the orangery, but the latter is used more to house tender plants.
