If you are currently in College Biology • If you earned a C- or below in College Biology and a C- or below in Algebra I for the first semester, you will take Intro to CEP (1511)(Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics). • If you earned a C to A- in College Biology and a C to A- in Algebra I for the first semester, you will take College CEP (1512). • If you earned an A or better in both College Biology and Algebra I for the first semester, you may decide to take Honors CEP (1513).
If you took Algebra I in 8th grade, that will be the grade used to determine placement. • If you are currently taking Algebra IA, you should enroll in Intro to CEP (1511).
If you are currently in Honors Biology • If you earned a B- or lower in Honors Biology and a B+ or lower in Algebra I for the first semester, you will take College CEP (1512). • If you earned a B or better in Honors Biology and an A- or better in Algebra I for the first semester, you may take Honors CEP (1513). * If you took Algebra I in 8th grade, that will be the grade used to determine placement.
If you are in Honors Biology • In addition to your CEP course, you may also enroll in AP Biology with an A- or above in Honors Biology and teacher recommendation.
Some information on Honors CEP • Students should reliably complete all assignments, seek out extra help when needed, show up for class prepared every day, maintain an organized notebook, and responsibly minimize absences. • Students should be able to read a selection from the text and successfully answer questions about that content. The last two pages of this document provide an example from the chemistry text. • Students should be comfortable with arithmetic, including the use of negative numbers, and recognize basic mathematical patterns. • Students should demonstrate use of scientific notation, including all arithmetic functions, with both positive and negative exponents. • Students should be able to rearrange literal equations using algebra.
Skills Practice Examples for Honors CEP Without a calculator: • ) .887÷.6=a. < half of .887 b. > half of .887 c. < two times .887 d. > two times .887 2.) (5 x 10 ^‐5 ) + (4 x 10 ^‐3 )= 3.) Density = mass/volume Rearrange the density equation above to solve for volume.
If you are currently in Intro to CEP • If you earn a B or better in Intro to CEP for the first semester, you can take any of the following courses next year: • General Chemistry (1525) • Oceanography (1552) and/or Marine Ecology (1550) (Both are semester courses) • Environmental Science (1574)
