  3. M - Metabolism Metabolism- biochemical reactions that release & use energy. Why do organisms need energy? How do organisms obtain energy?

  4. R - Reproduction Asexual Reproduction- involves a single parent; offspring are genetically identical to the parent. Sexual Reproduction - involves 2 parents; offspring are genetically different. Is it essential for an individual to reproduce?

  5. H - Heredity Heredity - passing of genetic material to offspring Two types: DNA and RNA

  6. H - Homeostasis Homeostasis- the ability of an organism to maintain its internal environment despite conditions in the external environment. Human body temperature……… • if body temperature rises, you perspire. • if body temperature lowers, you shiver.

  7. C O – Cellular Organization In multicellular organisms, cells are specialized to perform specific functions The size of multicelled organisms depends on the number of cells NOT the size of the cells

  8. S – Sensitivity All living things respond to stimuli in the external environment Detect and respond to changes in light, heat, sound and chemical and mechanical contact Coordinates it’s responses
