School Admissions For children born between 1st September 2013 and 31st August 2014
Making School choices • You can make up to four choices on your primary application. • It is sensible to name more than one school – better to name a school nearby even if you are not very keen, than to be allocated one the other side of the borough. • School allocations are based on the school’s own admissions criteria. • Check the School Directory on the Surrey County Council website if you are not sure what your chosen school’s criteria is. • Some Schools may have a ‘catchment area’ where living inside a set area gives you a higher criterion than living outside it. These are on ‘Find a School’ on SCC website.
Transport • Please note that Admissions and Transport are completely separate policies, just run by the same team. • Just because you have been allocated a school, it does not mean you will get given transport to that school. • Transport, if provided, may consist of a bus pass – it is a reasonable expectation for you as the adult to accompany them. It may also be a taxi. In this instance you will not be able to accompany them. • If you believe you may be eligible for transport or may require it please check before making your school choices.
ParentComms Mobile App • ParentComms mobile app is available to download on Apple or Android devices. • If you download it before starting your application, you will get notifications through confirming that your application has been submitted. • You will also get a notification on offer day to tell you when your offer is available to view and respond to. • Alternatively, you can opt in to receive text messages by registering your mobile phone number online. If you register for text alerts you will not receive your outcome by text - you will need to login to your online application to view the outcome.
Starting your application…. https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/eAdmissions/app?page=Login&service=page If you haven’t done an online application before, in Surrey or any London Borough then click ‘not registered yet’ If you have made an application previously in a London Borough please contact that Borough to have your details removed from the system. It will not allow you to make two accounts with the same email address.
If it does not allow you to register at this point, it is probably because your email address and mobile number have been used previously for an application. Contact Surrey County Council for further advice. If its close to the deadline, you can use a different email address and leave out the mobile number, but then you will not get the option to receive text confirmations. Your address MUST be accurate. If you do not know your postcode, or can not find your address in the drop down list, try looking on the Royal Mail Postcode finder, or contacting the admissions team.
Starting your application continued… Check your emails, you should have a confirmation with a link. Click the link to confirm your email address is correct, you will then receive another email with your username and password – keep this safe!
Starting your application continued… Log in with your newly received username and password. Please check the address and update if necessary before starting the application – this is especially important if you are using old log in details. If your child is listed below then click on their name to start an application. If your child is not listed below, click ‘start new application’
What address to use • There can only be 1 application per child • If custody is split 50:50 then the parents must decide between them who will make the application and which schools to name. • If it is not a 50:50 split the ‘main’ parent will be responsible for the application and any additional applications will be deleted. • If you have reason to believe your child’s other parent may make a fraudulent application please inform the team who can help. • Any queries regarding addresses should be sent to the Admissions team in the first instance.
Anyone you enter here can gain information about the application, so add anyone you wish to have equal knowledge of the application should they email and ask. Add your child’s name in as it appears on official documents. Do not put nicknames in. You will have to provide proof of your address. The easiest way to do this is with your council tax number. If you do not pay council tax you can upload and attach other documents as proof of your address at the end after submitting the application. The next step is to select the schools you wish to add as preferences. Surrey County Council Find A School is a great way to find the schools nearest to your home…. If your child has been Looked After or in care please tick this box as it will often give them a higher priority in the rankings.
Find A School Type in your postcode and select the address. Select the number and distance of results you require.
Select ‘Surrey County Council’ from the first drop down box, then the school you wish to have as your FIRST preference in the next box, for example below I have selected Weyfield Primary Academy. Once you have selected your school click ‘Add this school’. Please do not rely on the Map function at the bottom of the page, the Surrey County Council Find A School is much more reliable!
You are asked to read the schools admissions criteria if you have not already done this before deciding where to apply. If you have an older child please tick yes, and complete the pop up box (shown overleaf) with their details. Step siblings are only applicable if they live at the same address most of the time.
If you feel your child has exceptional circumstances to attend this preference school and no other please tick the relevant box(es) and provide proof before the closing date to the Admissions team. It can be attached to this application after submission.
Some schools will have supplementary information forms to complete for certain criteria. Please check their admissions criteria on the Surrey website to see if you need to complete one or not. Please note that school’s use this information for ranking applications.
Once you have added the schools you wish to have as preferences, up to a maximum of four, you can amend the order of them. Please note that once submitted you can still amend your application up to the closing date, but it is recommended you try to change it as little as possible to avoid accidentally changing something but not submitting the change properly.
The last step is reading through the application – everything should be as you have entered it. The declaration at the end requires ticking to show that you have read and accepted the terms and conditions and the declaration. Click ‘Submit Application’.
Once submitted you get an application reference number and confirmation to show the date and time you have submitted this. If you have downloaded and used ParentComms app, a notification will appear on there too. You will also receive an email confirmation. Please read and check this carefully to confirm the preference schools are in the order you require. If you do not have an application reference number then you have not submitted an application!
Important dates to remember Supplementary information forms generally have same deadline as application forms (15th January 2018) but please check the individual school’s admissions criteria Application deadline: 15th January 2018 Offer date: 16th April 2018 Response date : 30th April 2018
