  7. About Bridge • The Best card game there is! • Can be played and enjoyed at any level • A partnership game • Sat opposite is your partner • Each side of you are your opponents • 2 parts to bridge • Bidding • Playing • To get started we miss out the bidding

  8. MiniBridge • Deal the cards • Value the hands • A K Q J and T are honour cards • Each honour card has a high card point value • A = 4 HCP • K = 3 HCP • Q = 2 HCP • J = 1 HCP • T is an honour but has no HCP value • Add the values of your honour cards

  9. MiniBridge • Dealer states the hand value • Then each player clockwise • Total of the 4 hands must be 40 • If not someone cannot add up! – try again • The pair with the higher no of HCP become the declaring side • The others the defending side • If both sides have 20HCP the deal is void

  10. Which pair has most HCP? • N/S 27 MiniBridge • Next E • HCP? • N is Dealer • HCP? • Finally W • HCP? • Next S • HCP? A765 AK7  QJ4 984 • Look at this deal 14 KQ4 653  T82 J632 JT9 T84  A976 QT7 N W E S 7 6 832 QJ92  K53 AK5 • NS are declaring side • EW are defenders 13

  11. MiniBridge • The player on the declaring side with the higher HCP is Declarer • Partner is Dummy • If both have the same HCP the first to say their HCP count is Declarer • Dummy’s hand is put on the table face up • Declarer now has to decide the contract • Declarer can elect for a Part Score • Or for Game

  12. Scoring • Declarer must win more than 6 tricks to score • For the 7th trick declarer scores 40 points • For the 8th and each subsequent trick 30 • 100 is a game score • For a part score there is a bonus of 50 • For game there is a bonus of 300 • If you elect for a part score you cannot get the game bonus • If you elect for a game score you must make 9 tricks to score

  13. Scoring • Part Score • 50 + 40 = 90 • +30 = 120 • +30 = 150 • +30 = 180 • +30 = 210 • +30 = 240 • +30 = 270 • Game Score • 300+100 = 400 • +30 = 430 • +30 = 460 • +30 = 490 • +30 = 520 • 7 tricks • 8 tricks • 9 tricks • 10 tricks • 11 tricks • 12 tricks • 13 tricks

  14. Scoring • It is Important to go for game if you think it will make • With <25 part score; 25 or more Game • If you elect for a part score and make less than 7 tricks • Each trick short of 7 is 50 points to the defenders • If you elect for a game score and make less than 9 tricks • Each trick short of 9 is 50 points to the defenders

  15. Playing the cards • Hands are supplied in special boards • Defender on Declarer’s left makes the opening lead (puts a card on the table) • Each player plays in turn with Declarer selecting the card from Dummy • You must follow suit if you can • Cards are played face up in front of you • NOT in the centre of the table

  16. Playing the cards • After each round the cards just played are placed face down in front of each player • Orientated towards the team winning the trick • At the end of the 13 tricks agree the score • Then put the cards away in the boards • Make sure they go in the correct place!

  17. MiniBridge • So that has been the basics • Now lets play some hands
