  1. Everything You Need To Know About The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Tournament Format The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 commenced on 5th October 2023 and so far, a total of 5 World Cup matches have been held. India is resuming hosting duties for the 13th edition of the prestigious tournament, having co-hosted it with the neighbouring countries previously; in 1987, along with Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 1996, and in 2011 with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. 48 exciting matches are lined up to be held across 10 eminent stadiums in India and just like the previous edition, 10 teams have been qualified to play for this year's shiny new trophy. The participating teams for the 2023 edition are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England. The first match was held at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, which is also where the final showdown is scheduled to happen on 19th November 2023. This year, the selection committee followed a different route as the top 10 teams weren't selected on the basis of their ODI rankings. Instead, the teams qualified through ICC's new initiative, World Cup Super League, featuring a series of matches played between 2020 & 2023. Out of the 13 teams, the top 8 qualified for the World Cup directly. The remaining 5 teams competed with the top 5 ranked associate side teams- and all competed for the remaining 2 spots at the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

  2. Currently, all 10 teams are competing in the Group stage, before moving on to the Knockout Stage and further. Let's know more about these World Cup qualifying stages. World Cup Formats: 2023 Edition The ICC (International Cricket Council) announced the World Cup schedule on 27th June 2023, including all the details about every World Cup stage; Group, Knockouts, Semi-Finals and Finals. Let's know more about them in detail. Group Stage The Group Stage for the 2023 edition features all the matches being played in a round-robin format. Unlike the Asia Cup tournament, where the teams are split into groups of 2, all participating teams will play amongst each other as a part of one, singular group. Out of 48, 45 matches will be played during this stage in which all 10 teams will compete with each other to progress to the next stage; the Knockout Stage. This was the same format used in the preceding tournament as well as the 1992 edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. The inaugural match was held between the finalists for the 2019 edition; England and New Zealand, on 5th October at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. New Zealand won the match by 9 wickets. During this stage, all 10 teams are allotted points as per the outcome; every team gets 1 point for participation and an extra 2 points are added to the winning team's tally. At the end, the top 4 teams, who will move on to the Knockout Stage, are selected based on their NRR (Net Run Rate). Knockout Stage To fight for a place in the Semi-Finals, the top teams will play the Knockout matches to knock their competitors off the competition and claim one of the top 4 places in the highly coveted Semi-Finals!

  3. Semi-Finals Post the Knockout Stage, the top 4 teams will play the Semi-Finals to secure one of the two spots in the World Cup finals. The top and the bottom teams (the 1st and the 4th placed teams) in the Semi Finals will play to become one of the finalists. The remaining two teams will follow suit and contest for a place in the finals. This year, the first Semi-final match will be played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 15th November and the second match will be played the next day, 16th November at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Finals It all comes down to this particular event; the grand finale of the ICC World Cup 2023! The most important match of the quadrennial tournament will be played between the top two remaining teams, who will battle it out for this year’s ultimate glistening trophy after winning the 50-over match. Make sure you watch the much-awaited match on the Star Sports channel or stream them live anytime via the Disney+ Hotstar app.
