"Depths" is a thrilling game concept where players begin at the bottom of a menacing dungeon, tasked with working their way up to the surface. Starting in a lowly section, players must navigate through dark, claustrophobic corridors filled with sharp turns, encountering obstacles that require key items to progress. The initial environment emphasizes tension, encouraging exploration and item collection, such as finding a torch to illuminate dark areas and a knife to open locked doors. With detailed level design, players will engage with various environmental elements vital to their journey upwards.

Created a map of the opening level of a potential game idea, Depths, which starts the player at the bottom of a dungeon with the goal of working their way up. • The player starts in the lowermost section and must find a set of stairs leading up, which in this instance are visible but inaccessible without two keys. • Visually I’ve gone for something with a number of edges and sharp turns, particularly in darker areas, to give it a more claustrophobic and aggressive feel. • There’s a dark area directly in front of the entrance to ensure players pick up the torch, and the knife is required for the door.
Lengthened the initial hallway to create a somewhat more tense atmosphere and further emphasise the need for the torch, and lengthened one of the hallways in which a key is kept
Added detail for the contents of the level, such as where the character spawns and where they need to go, as well as a key explaining what each object is.
