  1. Justification by Faith! Acts 9: 1-19 Romans 5:1-11 Sermon by Rev: M.H Maluleka 23 March 2014

  2. Romans 5:1-11 (Text: NIV) 1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

  3. 7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

  4. Background! • The struggle of the early church from Judaism to Christness. • Mount Sinai vs Mount Calvary! • Sinai produced a to do list! • Calvary produced a “let me do it for you!” act.

  5. The law failed us! • “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. • But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. • This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. • There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:20-23)

  6. Abraham justified by Faith! • “If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about-but not before God. What does Scripture say? - “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” vs. 2-3 • “It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith, for if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless. Vs. 13-14

  7. Justification is by Faith! • What is justification? – (Made just before God; declared righteous) • JUST AS IF I HAVE NOT SINNED. • An Act of faith- putting our faith in Christ for our salvation. • “…for it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

  8. Peace with God! • No longer bothered by a guilty conscience. • The knowledge that all is taken care of. • No longer under the threat of God’s judgement.

  9. Conclusion! • Salvation is the act of God on us. • We do not need to keep the Ten Commandment to be saved but to put our faith in Christ for Him to make us righteous. • Salvation is by faith not by keeping the Sabbath or Ten Commandments.
