This presentation by Amir Wolf of Emblaze Systems at the IMTC Forum in May 2004 details the progress in interoperability testing for Packet-Switched Streaming (PSS) using standards TS.26.233 and TS.26.234. The forum, which was hosted in San Jose, California, involved key industry players such as Philips, Qualcomm, and Sony-Ericsson. It covers the current status of the testing cycles, the tools like IOTzilla for managing tests, and future plans for collaboration with 3GPP2, aiming to enhance multimedia content streaming over wireless networks.

Main Tested Components • Voice, audio and video CODECs • GSM/AMR (NB & WB) • AAC • H.263 • MPEG-4 Visual • Content negotiation & Transportprotocols • RTSP/SDP • RTP/RTCP • HTTP – for download and progressive download • 3GPP - File Format IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
Test Procedure • The tests are being done according to a test procedure that is developed and constantly improved by the group members (currently at version 0.5) • It was tailored to meet the needs of the vendors and the reference specification • The test is composed of 5 stages that can be divided into 3 main groups: • Offline test • Raw bitstream • FF • Virtual online test • Content negotiation / Transport protocols • Full system, Face-to-Face • Errorless / Simulated error condition / Wireless IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
Current Status • 15 vendors took part in the previous testing cycle. • The group is currently in the middle of the 4th test cycle having 24 participants companies • 94% of bitstream file exchange are already completed with success. • 93% of file format tests are already completed with success. • F2F meeting is planned to be in September as part of SuperOP. IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
Latest Improvements • Improved informative website • Improved testing document (ver 0.5) • Deployed automatic reporting tool (IOTzilla) • Implementation guide (ver 1.3) • Testing live streaming. • Testing Download and Progressive download. • Technical liaisons were issued by the group and approved in SA#4. • Performed F2F over a 3G Cellular network. IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
IOTzilla The PSS AG uses a unique tool named IOTZilla for tracking and managing the test points. The tool is provided to the group by Ximpo and gives us the following advantages: IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
IOTZilla • Enables the group to grow while maintaining the efficiency of testing. • Saves history of problems identified during testing. • Easy and secured access. • Gives a correct status of the tests in real time. • Saves time for the engineers . • User friendly. IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
Plans • A liaison relationship with 3GPP2 is now in progress in order to test the 3GPP2 specifications in addition to 3GPP. • Test 3GPP release 6 features in the next cycle • H264 • Scalability • Timed text • And more. IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
The PSS Group Qualities • Valuable discussion over a private reflector • High growth rate (9 new vendors during the year brings the group to 24 members) • Contributions to 3GPP according to practical tests • Cohesive group with common aims and goals oriented to PSS Interoperability • Strong, ever-improving cooperative spirit based on highly professional and personal attitude • Participation certificates are issued at the end of each testing cycle. IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
Steering & Outputs • Weekly ConfCall • Interoperability test procedures • Technical reflector • Test control Web-based tools (IOTzilla) • Implementation guide • Informative public reflector • PSS Interop PRs IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
Participation Requirements • Developers of: • Streaming servers • Content creation tools • Multimedia terminals • Membership in the IMTC IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
Motivation For Participation • Verify that your implementation is interoperable • Expand the proliferation of standards • Foster cooperation by creating direct channel at the engineerial level • Improve the PSS specification • Create market leverage IMTC Forum – May 2004 – San Jose, California
