  1. Utilizing Shotcrete and Gunite for Infrastructure Rehabilitation

  2. Shotcrete/Gunite Pneumatically applied mixture of cement, aggregate, and water conveyed through a hose and projected at high velocity onto the application surface.

  3. Typical Applications for Shotcrete/Gunite • Bridges / Dams • Sewer • Sanitary • Storm (Culverts / Basins) • Headwalls / Wing Walls

  4. Typical Applications for Shotcrete/Gunite • Piers / Docks • Ditches • Retaining Walls • Scope Stabilization

  5. Definition of Wet Mix Shotcrete Shotcrete in which all of the ingredients, except accelerator, are mixed before introduction into the delivery hose.

  6. Shotcrete (Wet Mix) Accelerator, if used, is added to the shotcrete mixture at the nozzle in such a way that the quantity can be properly regulated and monitored.

  7. Definition of Gunite (Dry Mix) Pre mix blend of dry cement and aggregate is propelled through a hose by compressed air to a nozzle.

  8. Gunite Equipment

  9. Definition of Gunite (Dry Mix) Dry Mix: Water is added to the cement/aggregate mixture at the nozzle and the mixed ingredients are projected onto the application surface.

  10. Gunite (Dry Mix) • Accelerators can be added at the nozzle when required. • Fibers (Steel or Poly) can also be used.

  11. Gunite/Shotcrete Materials(Same as Concrete) • Portland Cement • Water • Sand • Admixtures / Fibers • Difference : ???

  12. Gunite/Shotcrete Materials(Same as Concrete) • Portland Cement • Water • Sand • Admixtures / Fibers • Difference : Applied via Compressed Air

  13. Typical Application of Shotcrete/Gunite

  14. Typical Benefits of Repair vs. Replacement: • Dollar Savings per Project, allows more projects to be completed! • Low Impact to Environment • No Impact to Local Businesses • No Disruption of Traffic

  15. Rehabilitation of Corrugated Steel Pipe with Shotcrete

  16. Rehabilitation of Brick Sewer with Shotcrete

  17. Uses of Shotcrete • Infrastructure rehabilitation • Bridges, parking structures, subway tunnels etc.

  18. Uses of Shotcrete • Bridges - continued

  19. Uses of Shotcrete • Bridges - continued

  20. Uses of Shotcrete • Bridges - continued

  21. Uses of Shotcrete • Infrastructure rehabilitation • Dams and hydraulic structures (water reservoirs, canals, spillways, locks, creek stabilization, etc.)

  22. Uses of Shotcrete • Infrastructure rehabilitation • Marine structures (piers, wharves, sea walls, light stations, berth faces, dry docks, etc.)

  23. Uses of Shotcrete • Infrastructure rehabilitation • Strengthening and seismic retrofit

  24. Uses of Shotcrete • Infrastructure rehabilitation • Retaining Walls

  25. Uses of Shotcrete • Infrastructure rehabilitation • Retaining Walls (continued)

  26. Shotcrete / Gunite has been used for nearly 100 years and with the growing experience and technology, the industry and application will continue to expand.
