  2. Overall agenda • Part 1: WISE ds theory • Part 2: Get it real! + demo • Part 3: Results + discussion • Part 4: Potential use WISE-ESTAT case + demo

  3. Agenda Part 3 • Results pilot • Recommendations • Further development • Implementation/organisation

  4. Results • Overall: scope was reached: automated validation flow for ART8 realised in experimental setup • Generic & extensible framework based on web services & standards (XML,WFS) • Generic: all testing generated from the XML files with automatic procedures • Extensible: functionality of web services is adaptable to new IT environments provided that the new custom code is added to the web service • Framework: logical grouping of use cases in Web Service logic

  5. Results FTP scenario • FTP scenario: for the test files provided by EEA (reportnet) & member states (FTP reporting exercise) • Only 34 of 131 tested XML files pass validation • 29 files fail spatial validation (outside MS) • 18 fail content validation (url) • 55 fail schema validation • Reason for not putting the FTP solution live • Schema validation errors could be avoided on input side ? (client tool for MS)

  6. Results WFS scenario • Working prototype • If WFS backend database has correct schema, output from WFS always validates against the WISE ds schemas • Currently Problems may occur with large updates due to verbose nature of output GML • Queuing mechanism should be refined

  7. Results WFS scenario • WFS scenario was not tested with MS • Complex features solution took long too implement • Solution not straightforward to roll out to MS • Involves installation of • Postgresql/postgis database according to specific db schema • Apache Tomcat web application server • Deegree-wfs configured to serve complex features on top of postgis • Follow up could include this test

  8. Further Development • Controllers • manageability of Biztalk flow • Unexpected errors get caught in Biztalk, but no always straightforward to debug from Biztalk administrator • Communication • More intelligent email alerting to administrators • More intelligent email alerting to member states on validation reports

  9. Further development • Schemas • Determine the cause of validation failure in xml files • Spatial validation failure • Content validation failure • XML schema issues • XML content issues

  10. Further development • WFS • Explore possibilities to serve complex WFS in different software environment • Now: tomcat5.5 + deegree-wfs + postgres/postgis • Possibly: ARCGIS server, Mapserver, ...

  11. Further Development • Security • Secure the services & system • Password policy • Enhance message queuing • Performance • Queuing of high amount of simultaneous calls

  12. Further development • Decisions steps • Consolidate pilot for production • Extend pilot to complex datasets • Detailed architecture (development level) based on the test results • Implementation procedure/road book to implement other services • Define out flow use cases

  13. Further organisation • Dedicated team of experts • Thematic expertise (subject of water management, legal obligations…) • Technical expertise (XML, development…) • Technical team • Account manager • DBA • 1 or 2 developers

  14. Further organisation • Active campaign to visit member states • EU Helpdesk for member states • Roadmap • Detailed Technical guidance • How to tutorial

  15. Thank you! • We stay available for: • Questions/discussions
