Slant Asymptotes
Slant asymptotes occur in rational functions when the degree of the numerator is one larger than the degree of the denominator. To find the slant asymptote (SA), you can divide the numerator by the denominator using either synthetic division or long division. The quotient of this division represents the slant asymptote. It’s important to identify all asymptotes—both vertical and horizontal—of a function to fully understand its behavior as it approaches infinity.
