The Enlightenment Era of the 18th century marked a profound shift in European thought, as philosophers sought to apply reason and scientific principles to society. Figures like Hobbes and Locke debated the role of government, while the Philosophes in Paris championed concepts of liberty, happiness, and progress. Key thinkers like Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Rousseau reshaped ideas about governance and human rights. This period questioned authority, leading to a belief in individual self-worth and the questioning of traditional roles, setting the stage for modern democracy and social reform.
