Overview of the Irrlicht Engine: A Lightweight and Versatile 3D Graphics Engine
The Irrlicht Engine, initiated by Nikolaus Gebhardt in 2003, is a robust 3D graphics engine recognized for its small size and compatibility with a wide range of hardware. With a team that expanded after its 2006 stable release, Irrlicht is actively developed and maintained. It is open-source and written in C++, featuring a built-in material library, support for multiple rendering APIs, and an extensive community for resources. Key features include animations, a GUI system, special effects, and support for various texture and mesh formats.

Irrlicht Engine Overview By Eric Osugi
Irrlicht's development started in 2003 with only Nikolaus Gebhardt. Only after the 1.0 release of Irrlicht in 2006 did the team grow to currently ten members, most of them developers. • Irrlicht is known for its small size and compatability with new and old hardware. http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/images/shots/055.jpg
