  1. 8 COMMON ADHD MYTHS THAT NEED DEBUNKING

  2. Thanks to technology and advancements in the medical field, we can now separate myths from reality. Particularly in the medical field where brain imaging studies and scientific evidence help us learn a lot about medical conditions. Be it anxiety, cold, ADHD, or something as serious as epilepsy. However, there is still a lot of confusion about several medical conditions including ADHD. Despite getting an ADHD evaluation, some people thrust their non-reliable myths on patients. This makes it hard for ADHD patients to get the advice and medical support they need. Not only this, but some myths also lead patients to isolate themselves from school, work, and in general from society.              The reason why we will talk about the most common myths associated with ADHD and help you debunk them. This way you can decide for yourself and make wise decisions about ADHD treatment plans. In fact, you don’t even need to feel anxious or lock yourself in a room because of myth-based opinions. All you have to do is read about them and understand the reality. Without further ado, I will straight away dive into debunking the most common myths about ADHD.

  3. ADHD IS NOT A REAL MEDICAL CONDITION There are several research papers and scientific pieces of evidence to show that ADHD falls under the category of real medical conditions. All prestigious medical institutions recognize ADHD as a medical condition. These institutions or research centers include the American Psychiatric Association, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health. Not only this but medically ADHD is associated with biological symptoms and deficiencies. Moreover, this condition is largely found in children and adults. Clearly indicating that ADHD is a well known medical condition commonly found in young kids and adults. In the same vein, let us learn a little more about ADHD. To begin with, studies show that this medical condition is hereditary. A family with ADHD history will most likely transfer the same to younger family members. The other most interesting fact about ADHD is that it can cause serious brain deformation. Simply put, the brain of an ADHD patient will develop differently from people who do not have this medical condition.    Also, if you are an ADHD patient, you know how real this condition feels and how much impact it can have on your life. So, saying that ADHD is not even a real medical condition – is one of the most common, but sad myths. And no one in their right mind should believe in these myths. If you need information regarding ADHD maybe you should talk to a doctor or an expert before making blind assumptions about any medical condition you believe is not even real.

  4. ADHD PATIENTS HAVE TO JUST TRY HARDER A medical condition, be it anxiety, depression, or ADHD forces an individual to act in a certain way. No one wants to act differently and the biggest problem is that people without ADHD cannot understand the same. An ADHD patient might feel lazy and unmotivated, but you see they don’t do it on purpose. Both kids and adults with ADHD are trying their best to pay attention and stay focused. Although to a normal individual it’s a matter of trying harder. In fact, some might even believe that this ADHD patient is not trying harder.  All in all, telling ADHD patients that you need to try a little harder. If you focus and pay attention and work hard you might reach the desired goal. If you are doing so, you are simply asking someone nearsighted to see a lot farther. The reason why they are lazy or unfocused is that your brain functions normally and their brain function is structured improperly.

  5. ADHD PATIENTS CANNOT FOCUS Yes, patients with ADHD indeed have a hard time focusing on simple things. But as I said before that’s because their brain functions differently than a normal brain. However, if ADHD patients are interested in something they will sincerely focus on that subject. Medically it’s termed as hyperfocus. In contrast, some kids get distracted easily. So, it all depends on the interest of an ADHD patient. The bottom line is that ADHD patients will focus intensely on things they like and will be easily distracted from things that do interest them. ADHD KIDS ARE HYPERACTIVE Only a fake ADHD evaluation will tell you that your kid is hyperactive and less-focused. But the reality is quite the opposite. Not all kids with ADHD have hyperactive symptoms. Some are less hyperactive and the symptoms reduce as the patients get older. You see, there are 3 types of ADHD. First, does not have any impact on the activity levels and this type of ADHD is termed as ADD. it only affects the attention span of a patient.

  6. ADHD AFFECTS ONLY BOYS Statistics show that boys are more likely to get affected by ADHD, but that doesn’t mean girls can’t have ADHD. They are as likely to have ADHD as adults or younger boys. The only difference is that in the case of girls ADHD looks quite different. For instance, girls have fewer problems associated with hyperactivity, focus, attention, and daydreaming. Interestingly, in some cases, ADHD remains undiagnosed. However, it would be wrong to say that only boys get ADHD and girls can never get affected by this medical condition. ADHD MEANS YOU CANNOT READ AND WRITE No scientific research says that ADHD is a learning disability. Only the symptoms get in the way of learning abilities. But an ADHD patient is capable of reading and writing. Yes, some learning and writing disabilities coexist with ADHD.However, this does not mean that a patient with ADHD cannot learn math or write in English.

  7. ADHD DISAPPEARS WITH AGE ADHD does not outgrow with age or passing time. Although some patients do outgrow certain symptoms associated with ADHD. As ADHD patients grow up they learn to manage the symptoms effectively. And that is not the same as outgrowing something. Overall, learning how to deal with the situation causes the symptoms to lessen as patients enter adulthood.  Most often it’s easier for people to talk about medical conditions they know nothing about. They can form several perceptions and end up believing common myths. As far as ADHD patients are concerned, the same can happen no. of times. The reason why it is easier for people to judge that with age ADHD symptoms disappear.  ADHD does not happen because of a lack of good parenting. It is a neurological disorder. So, instead of getting into myths, people should take time to read about ADHD. It will help them understand ADHD patients better. This also brings me to my last point.

  8. BAD PARENTING LEADS TO ADHD When you see a kid fidgeting, acting hyperactive, not obeying rules, and lacking discipline. The reason for this behavior cannot always be bad parenting. Especially, not in the case of parents with ADHD children. From afar it may seem like that child is a bad example of negative parenting. However, the reality is quite different from what you think. You see, ADHD kids do not realize why they are acting differently. On the other hand, impulsive behavior has nothing to do with bad parenting. It’s all about understanding ADHD as a medical condition. This will help others and you debunk myths that people preach without scientific affirmations. https://bit.ly/3aGjFir SOURCE:
