Values • Studied Humanism – Focused on human potential and achievements • Studied things not to relate them to Christianity but to understand Greek and Roman Ideals
Values • Influences art and literature • Common Subjects – history, literature, philosophy, and languages • Secular – concerned with everyday life not just religious
Renaissance Man – a man that could master almost every area of study • From the Courtier – they should be charming, witty, well-educated, dance, sing, play music, write poetry, skilled rider, swordsman, and possess self-control
Renaissance Women – should be upper-class, charming, well-educated • They should inspire men to create great art not create it themselves
Writers • Vernacular- your normal speaking language (not Latin as everything prior to this had been written in) • Petrarch – Poet, Sonnets to Laura
Writers • Boccaccio – Decameron – stories set during the plague that were realistic • Machiavelli – advised rulers how to rule
