  2. WHAT’S THE PURPOSE? TO HELP YOUR STUDENT ORG PROCURE EASY WAYS TO RAISE MONEY

  5. WHY??? • Use the money for meetings, panels, and extra-curricular activities • Loosen dependence on ASUCH for funds • Ensuring funds for next years executive board

  6. WHAT CAN I DO TO RAISE MONEY?

  7. WHAT CAN I DO TO RAISE MONEY? • Contact alumni and ask for donations • Write letters to firms for sponsorships / donations • Hold fundraising activities on campus

  8. CONTACTING ALUMNI • Use Hastings’ alumni network • Go to alumni & student networking events • Calendar of events at - http://www.uchastings.edu/alumni/ • Use your networking skills • Hastings alumni at firms • Look for alumni with common background or interest

  9. WRITE FUNDRAISING LETERS • Research firms • Write a letter stating upcoming events • Make it easy for them to send your organization money AND IF YOU CAN… TRY AND MAKE SOME KIND OF CONNECTION WITH THE FIRM.

RESEARCHING FIRMS • Directories of firms • NALP, Vault, etc. • Does not have to be local • Bar association websites • i.e. Asian American Bar Association, Filipino Bar Association of Northern California, San Francisco La Raza Lawyer’s Association • Firms • Diversity / Pro Bono Coordinator • Ethnic / Special Interest Background • Hastings Alumni • Other ties to your organization

LETTER WRITING • Introduce who you are • What’s your organization’s mission • List past activities • Reputation on campus • Goals for the upcoming semester • Explain why you need the money • List upcoming events, expenses • Ask them to sponsor one or all these events • Give them some incentive (optional)

  12. MAKE IT EASY TO SEND MONEY • VERY IMPORTANT! • Include: • A self-addressed stamped envelope • Clear contact information • Also: • Make sure the contact information you have is the most up to date

  13. REMEMBER TO SAY YOUR THANKS! • Send: • A thank you letter • A card • Photos of the event You want to establish an ongoing relationship with the firm.
