Animals are composed of specialized cells that work together as systems: cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems form the basis of an organism. The four main animal tissues include epithelial (covering), muscle (movement), nervous (coordination), and connective (support). Organ systems like the nervous, endocrine, skeletal, muscular, urinary, integumentary, immune, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory, and digestive systems work together to maintain homeostasis, protect the body, and enable functions essential for survival and reproduction.
