  2. Introduction • 2 Tim. 3:16-17 • What the Word provides • Doctrine = teaching that we need • Reproof = convict us of wrong doing

  3. Introduction • Correction = correct our false knowledge and sinful practices • Instruction in righteousness = leads us in holy and right living

  4. Introduction • Information to furnish us unto every good work = the Word of God is the only guide we need – the only instruction we need to show us the good works we need to do and how to do them • The Word is all-sufficient

  5. Introduction • To gain the benefits the Word provides we must study it! • 2 Tim. 2:15

  6. We May Have Our Heart Cut And Pricked • This is a great blessing – it is only when we see ourselves as God sees us that we desire to change our lives • Acts 2:37 • Acts 7:54 • Heb. 4:12

  7. We May Have Our Heart Cut And Pricked • This requires honest and sincere study • This is why preaching may often be viewed as “hard preaching” • Sometimes the Truth hurts – then if we obey it heals us

  8. We Are Able To See Ourselves As God Sees Us • What does a mirror do for us? • It allows us to see ourselves • The Word of God is a mirror for the soul! • Js. 1:23-24

  9. We Are Able To See Ourselves As God Sees Us • We need to see ourselves in the true perspective, so that we may make the necessary changes to be pleasing to God

  10. We Are Given A View Of Things That Will Come Up At Judgment • Rev. 20:12 • Jn. 12:48 • How many will be surprised at judgment to learn the God required certain things of them which they did not know about-because they did not study

  11. It Protects Us From Falling • 2 Pet. 1:5-10 • It strengthens us in or battle with temptation • Jesus left us an example of saying to the devil, “It is written” and then He would quote the scripture

  12. It Protects Us From Falling • The person who has a full knowledge of God’s Word is indeed fortunate • Those without a proper knowledge of God’s Word are often destroyed • Hosea 4:6

  13. We Will Be Able To: • Preach and teach the gospel • Give an answer • Defend the gospel

  14. Conclusion • Study of and obedience to the Word of God will build us up and give us a home in heaven • Acts 20:32 • “Too much depends upon Bible study for us to neglect it.”
