Inter-Personal Skills (IPS) • The following slide is a simple overview of the key interpersonal skills. It is extracted from the slide set on teamwork. • At one level, interpersonal skills seem very simplistic, and people are prone to dismiss them – but the key word here is ‘skills’, and when people are observed in a variety of situations (even within a training environment) they begin to understand how poorly, infrequently and inopportunely they use these skills – largely because they tend to take them for granted. • Done well, IPS training is typically resisted at the start, generates surprise in the middle, and seen as essential at the end.
