  2. What would I do? • What if my way of life was threatened? • What if someone said my culture was wrong? • Would I give up the way I am for one animal? • What does one animal mean to the ecosystem? • When do animal rights become more important than human rights?

  3. I Can: • Represent key players/stakeholders, take a stance, and persuade others in the Makah whaling debate.

  4. What is a stakeholder? • A stakeholder is : • someone who is involved in or affected by a course of action. • Someone that has a stake in an enterprise • In your notebook, write down some possible stakeholders or key players that may be involved in the Makah Whaling debate.

  5. Stakeholder Groups • Makah Tribe • Sea Shepherd • NOAA • Tourism • Marine Biologists • Alberta Thompson You will be assigned one of the above stakeholder groups in the Makah Whaling debate.

  6. Your Job • Access the Makah Whaling webquest to research your role. • During your research, answer the essential questions provided. • Prepare to take a stand regarding the Makah Whaling debate. • Prepare to share your findings with your stakeholder group.

  7. Stakeholder Groups • Compile and share your research. • How do individual stands compare within your group? How will you overcome a difference of opinion as a group? • What is the stand of your group?

  8. Your Job • Create a poster to communicate your stance on the Makah Whaling debate to other stakeholder groups, communicate your research, and persuade others that “you are right.” • Prepare to share/present to the other stakeholders (Participation by all members of your group is expected) • Anticipate some criticism and questions that could be posed in regard to your stance (write these down & discuss possible responses). Be prepared to answer those critical questions.
