  3. Problems of Report Wizard • Sometimes the fields in a report overlap • Cannot input period (“.”) into the title • What if I want to change the title/header/footer after running the wizard • The above can not be done by the wizard, but can be done in the design view CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  4. Report Design View • Split into several parts • Report header/footer: appear once for the whole report • Page header/footer: appear once for each page • (Possibly) Group header/footer: appear once for each group (they corresponds to the grouping levels in the Wizard) • Detail: appear once for each record • The sizes of those areas affect the report appearance CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  5. Elements in the Design View • Labels: Static text on the report, e.g. the title, the headers • Click to change the text. Use format toolbar to change format (font, colour, …) • Textboxes: Dynamic text, e.g. the field content, formulas (sum, average, …) • Lines, pictures, … • Background CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  6. Tools in Design View • Toolbox: Add new controls from toolbox • E.g. a new label for more text • Properties window: Adjust settings of controls • E.g. Currency style for a textbox • Sorting and Grouping: Change the way your report is sorted CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  7. Create a Good Report • Maybe a good way: • First create in wizard • Then modify in design view • Provide sufficient descriptions for the report • Title • Date • Description and comments CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  8. Change of Due Time • From Assignment 3 and on, the due time is changed to 2:00 p.m. on due days CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  9. In Assignment 3 • You need apply various formatting options to your reports • Give good titles to your reports • Titles like “Report 1” are NOT good • You only need print reports to hand in • You do not need table and form print outs CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao
