  1. Volume 5, Issue 8 March 21 , 2014 Happy April to everyone! I hope everyone has an enjoyable spring break and gets plenty of rest so that we can finish the year strong. We have many exciting events coming up this month. School will not be in session on April 11th and 14th in respect to Easter. This comes three weeks after Spring Break and allow everyone to enjoy spending time with their families. It will be our last break until Memorial Day. The last PTO Meeting of the year will be held at school on Tuesday, April 8th at 7:00 p.m. There may be some special performances by our 5th – 8th grade prior to the meeting if you want to come a bit early. The Graymont School Spring Concert will be on May 1st at 7:00 p.m. This is a good warm-up for our 5th – 8th grade students’ involvement in the IESA Music Organization Contest. It will be held on May 3rd at Prairie Central. Our chorus will be performing. We are already beginning to make plans for the next school year.  For parents of new kindergarten students, Graymont Grade School will be holding Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday, April 8th at 6:15 p.m. Parents will find out all about entrance requirements, school readiness, curriculum, and registration. If you have a child who will turn 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2014, please call the school at 743-5346 so that we can prepare for the orientation.  If anyone knows of a family in the community who may not get this notice, please pass this information along to them and have them call the school. As a reminder, if you would like to take the 2014 Illinois 5Essentials Survey that I wrote about in the February and March newsletters you still have time to do so. You may take the survey on-line at https://illinois.5-essentials.org. The survey window will remain open until April 15th. This survey, required to be implemented this school year by legislation passed in 2011, represents the second attempt by the state to administer a statewide survey of learning conditions to teachers, students, and parents. Statewide summary results will be shared with ISBE this summer. School-level results will be sent to schools this summer and will be part of the 2014 school report cards, typically released by ISBE at the end of October. Thank you for helping us meet the state requirement by taking this survey. Have a great April! Sincerely, Mr. James NEWSLETTER: April 2014 Graymont Grade School Newsletter
