  2. Introduction** Telecommunication networks evolve from year to year, and increasingly people rely on these networks for conducting their business. As a result, performance and reliability of these infrastructures have become an essential requirement in today’s world.

  4. a network is a series of points interconnected by some communication medium and have paths. Network must have identifier or address to locate a point on a path. Some procedure or method to be use to communicate with different points. DEFINITIONS

  5. Network Maintenance • Maintenance is concerned with performing repairs and upgrades for example: • when equipment must be replaced • when a router needs a patch for an operating system image • when a new switch is added to a network

  6. Maintenance involves corrective and preventive measures to make the managed network run "better“. • such as : • adjusting device configuration parameters.

  7. for better network , we should take attention from these categories : • cabling and connection technologies : • hubs, switches, routers. • network operating systems and protocols • file, connection. • security • performance analysis and optimization

  8. Network cables A patch cable A patch cable connects two network devices. Network patch cables are typically CAT5 or CAT5e Ethernet cables linking a computer to a nearby hub, switch or router.

  9. At first : • let's see the general shape of the cable and its connections.. • This is the general shape of the cable after removal of upper crustfrom it. • It Contains 8 wires • There must be a special connector , which is called “ connector “ , " RJ45 " or " RJP "

  10. Color-code standards • simple pin-out diagrams of the two types of UTP Ethernet cables. Note that the TX (transmitter) pins are connected to corresponding RX (receiver) pins, plus to plus and minus to minus.  And that  you must use a crossover cable to connect units with identical interfaces.  If you use a straight-through cable, one of the two units must, in effect, perform the cross-over function.

  11. Two wire color-code standards apply: EIA/TIA 568A and EIA/TIA 568B.The codes are commonly depicted with RJ-45 jacks as follows (the view is from the front of the jacks):

If we apply the 568A color code and show all eight wires, our pin-out looks like this: Note that pins 4, 5, 7, and 8 and the blue and brown pairs are not used in either standard.  Quite contrary to what you may read elsewhere, these pins and wires are not used or required to implement 100BASE-TX duplexing--they are just plain wasted.
