What are the driving forces behind Digital Health • NHS inability to cope with unprecedented demand for services and the need to innovate to meet this demand. • Demand is driven largely by: • Aging population – More LTCs • Limited funding • ‘Consumer’ demands and a new generation of ‘Expert Patients’ – I interact digitally with other suppliers why not with the NHS. • Digital life itself - more sedentary, impact on health etc… • Government targets/strategies • Paperless NHS • Telephone/Online appointments • Personalised Care • Pace of Innovation
Expected Market Growth • Globally Telehealth Industry is forecast to grow from £700 million (2014) to £1.2 billion by 2018 • In the UK the Digital Health Industry (Telecare, Telehealth, Apps, Wearables, Health Analytics & Digital Health Systems is predicted to grow by 49% from £1966 million to £2937 million. (84% growth globally expected) • Largest growth area both in the UK and Globally is with Apps (35%/49%)

Our journey • Currently implementing FLOin the Heart Failure Service. • Will continue its use across arange of clinical services. • We aim to offer tele/videoGP appointments. • As Care Co-ordinationmatures, we aim to look athow we can operationaliseand mainstream the use ofboth Telehealth andTelecare.
Examples of Local Innovations underway • FLO Telehealth • MSK on Line support and App • Rally Round
FLO Telehealth • A simple SMS based telehealth system in use across the NHS and across many clinical areas • Able to attract into the CCG some investment to kick start this work. • Is protocol driven, sending automated messages to patients which the patient responds to. These could include: • BP • Weight • SPo2 • Blood Glucose Levels etc • System tracks and monitors patient signs and alerts the clinicians to unusual readings which can be tracked on any device. • Easy to use, fast to deploy and cheap to run • We are starting in Heart Failure first, moving rapidly onto other clinical areas.
