  1. Candle Light Is it really what it looks like?

  2. Observations: Key to scientific discovery! • Look closely at the following pictures. • Jot down in your science notebook what you immediately see. • Look closer, do you see anything else?

  3. First Picture

  4. Now conference with your table what do you see. Use whisper voices.

  5. Second Picture: Repeat same process. Observe, then write in notebooks.

  13. You are “bright” students…… • Write AND draw what you just saw in your notebooks

  14. Discuss with your team • Share results • Come up with a complete description of what just happened.

  18. We will learn to make 2 types of observations: • Qualitative • Quantitative

  19. Qualitative • Dealing with the qualities of something

  20. Qualitative Small Beautiful Green Grass Great View Nice Atmosphere

  21. Quantitative • Things that can be measured

  22. I will be 12 Soon!

  23. 38,365 Seats Fences: LCF to RCF - 6 ft            RCF to RF foul pole - 21 ft

  24. Please make 2 qualitative observations and 2 quantitative about a person sitting at your table.

  25. Were you surprised? Why are observations important?

  26. Back to the Candle Lab: • Which of your observations were Qualitative? • Which were Quantitative?

  27. Exit Ticket • What surprised you most in science class today?
