  2. Interior designing has been practiced from ages. Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro were known to build the most scientifically designed infrastructure. The culture of Interior Designer in Kolkata has developed in years. These days we find a separate sector for interior designing. We can find some of the best interior designer Kolkata. Elements of interior designing The professional interior designers generally follow a set of rules and standard.

  3. There are seven important elements that must be followed for interior designing. Space It is the most important factor for designing. The designs are created considering the limitations of walls, ceilings, floors, windows, beams and columns and also whether space is fully or semi occupied. The professionals usually work within the three dimensions that are length, breadth and height of the space. Planning the space effectively will help in blooming the marvelous design.

  4. The terminology “space” can be categorized into two different parts. ● Positive Space: This is the space where the objects are kept for use. They may be some furniture and other pieces of stuff. ● Negative Space: The empty or clear area is termed as negative space. The area between objects, the traffic path needs to be clear.

  5. There must be a balance between the negative and positive space to nullify overcrowding or sparseness. The desires and needs of the client decide the positive and negative space in the room. Lines The lines help in the formation, shape and structure of the room. With distinct lines in different forms, there is harmony, contrast and unity in the interior decorations. Both the curved surfaces and straight surfaces create a distinct line. There are three types of lines, namely, vertical, horizontal and dynamic lines.

  6. For example, in a room, a long rectangular dining table reflects the shape and unity of the area. The horizontal legs of the chairs and tables give harmony to space. The oval-shaped lights hanging from the ceiling gives contrast and interesting flavour to the shape of the room. ● Horizontal line: Horizontal lines are created by the flat tabletops, bookshelves, back of the chairs etc. The horizontal lines create the effect of stability. Interior designs with horizontal lines make the room appear wider.

  7. ● Vertical line: The vertical line consists of windows, doors, tall cabinets, columns etc. The vertical lines must be correctly balanced with horizontal lines as it gives an illusion of the height. ● Dynamic line: The curved, zigzag and diagonal lines are termed as dynamic lines. Some examples are curved or oval-shaped fittings, curved corner of the sofas, staircase etc. These lines are more attention seekers.

  8. Light Whatever be the designing style of the interior, the light should be available enough. It may be natural or man-made. There are different subsections of light. ● Task lighting: This type of light has a defined purpose. ● Accent lighting: This emphasises the objects. ● Mood lighting: This creates ambience and mood. Light is important to distinguish between the colours, lines and patterns.

  9. Colour Colour can transform a room from dull to a cheerful one. Different colours explain different meanings in our life. The lighter and brighter colours make the space look large. Texture Every object has a different texture to create depths in the designing. Different textures like glossy, smooth, coarse, matt adds interesting detail in designing. There are two types of texture-

  10. ● Visual texture: It is in the form of pattern and only after viewing it is perceived. ● Actual texture: The 3D articles represent the tactile texture. A finished design must have variant textures. Pattern A pattern is created by using the design repetitively in fabrics, tiles, techniques wallpapers etc. It works in hand with colour. Stripes, geometric, checks, pictorial, animal print, organic are different types of pattern.

  11. Form The term form and space are used interchangeably in designing. There are natural and man-made forms. The term relates to any three-dimensional objects. A beautiful flower, an artistic scenery pleases our mind and soul. People love to decorate the interior of their house. The Interior Design has now become a profession.
