All About Me GO COUGS!! • Born and raised on the Sammamish Plateau • I went to Washington State University • In my spare time I enjoy crosswords/puzzles, baking, getting outdoors, and spending time with friends & family. • Family: Mom, Dad, sister and Maggie (chocolate lab) • I live with two roommates: Hannah and North • I am coming into my first year of teaching with great experience under my belt!

Bring to School • Backpack-please label with your child’s name. A laminated luggage tag works well. • Lunch (or lunch money) • Healthy snack • Coat, jacket or sweater (with name inside) We go outside everyday! • Toys, trading cards, action figures, electronics, etc. are not allowed.
Expectations • Children are working on independence and self-sufficiency (ex-cleaning up, unpacking and packing up, bathroom, lunch, snack, coatsand shoes). • Kindergarten is a learning year, but all children are expected to show respect and listen to all adults at Creekside (not just the teacher). • Children will learn the difference between “home rules” and “school rules.” • To have fun, learn to make friends, work hard and try their best!
Behavior Management • We follow the “Bucket Filling” idea at Creekside. There will be a school wide assembly at the beginning of October. • When you are kind and helpful you fill someone’s internal bucket. • Clip chart • Many growth and learning opportunities in terms of behavior. This is a learning time. • We also are a “Leader in Me” school. We practice the 7 habits of highly effective people leadership skills.
Drop-off • Drop them off at the front of the school (if running late) or walk them down to the playground along the side sidewalk to the covered basketball area. • At 9:05 kids will wait outside the lunch room. • At 9:10 I will pick class up outside. • If you arrive after 9:15, you must sign them in at the office. • If you drop them off, pull forward if possible. Also make sure your child exits along the sidewalk.

Pick-up • You are welcome to meet us by the play structure. If you are picking up your child by car, your child will meet you out front of the school by the flagpole. An EA will watch over them at that time. If you are running late, your child will be in the office. • Hint- it is often quicker to park your car and walk up to the front of the school. • If you need to change your pick-up routine in any way, you must do so in writing (or email). If it is a last minute change, please call the office as I might not see the email in time. • Bus riders will have a special color coded card to assure they get onto the right bus. Please leave them in the backpack.
Saying good Bye • Be Brave ( moms and dads!) • Don’t cry • Show confidence
Appropriate Clothing • Dress for the weather! • Wear comfortable clothing and be aware that your children may come home dirty. • All children must wear non-skid, closed toed shoes on PE days. • No hats in class (recess ok). • Girls should wear tights or shorts under skirts and dresses.
Snack • Make sure your child gets to school with a full stomach. We don’t eat lunch till 12:10. • We have snack daily at 2:30. • Please send in a quick, nutritioussnack that can be eaten with minimal assistance (even if your child buys hot lunch). • Please send all necessary utensils. • Please do not send milk or juice. They can have water from the drinking fountain. • We are officially a NUT FREE classroom. Please check labels of your child’s snack! http://snacksafely.com/snacklist.pdf
Lunch • Lunch is from 12:10-12:30 (recess is before) • Choice of bringing cold lunch or buying hot lunch for $3.50 or milk for $.50. • Please do not have your child buy hot lunch until 9/16 if at all possible. • Please teach your child to be as independent as possible when dealing with their lunchboxes so they don’t need to wait for help. • Each student has an account # where money can be deposited either online or via a check. Checks payable to “ISDFS”. Please write students name on check. • Lunch menus available online.
Bathrooms • We “empty our tanks” before first recess, lunch recess and last recess. (About every hour or so) Children may use the restroom with permission during independent work time. Of course, if there is an emergency, I will allow the children to go!!!!
Birthdays • In keeping with our district nutrition policy, we will not be having birthday treats in the classroom. We will celebrate in other non-food ways in the classroom (singing, crown, prize box). • Monthly celebration during lunch with the principal. • Summer birthdays can be celebrated at anytime during the year, please talk with me to set this up. (Half birthday?) • Please do not pass out party invitations in class, as this can cause hurt feelings to those children not invited. (Unless your child is inviting the whole class.) Please send them through the mail.
Shining Star Each child is given 1 special week during the school year. • Monday – bring your special poster and take The Cat in the Hat home for the week. • Tuesday – bring in something special to share with the class. • Wednesday – story choice during snack time. • Thursday – estimation jar • Friday – return The Cat and the Hatand share about his adventures. The class will also make each student a special book.
Library • We have library once a week on Friday mornings (check out will start in about 1 month). • Kids will be allowed to check out 1 book every week (2 books later in the year). • Kids may return their book anytime during the week and must return it in order to check out a new book.
Book Orders • These are for your convenience and there is no obligation to purchase. • We now do all orders online. Information in your green folder. • All purchases help our class earn free books. • Books are value priced and usually arrive in 2 weeks.

Parent volunteers (con’t) • Please make childcare arrangements for younger siblings. • If you are unable to make assigned time, please try to find a replacement or let me know ASAP. • Must fill out background check form.
Weekly Homework • Homework activities support classroom learning. • Homework usually consists of nightly reading and sight word practice. • There are occasionally special projects that need to completed (usually with parent help).
Curriculum Overview • We will go into more depth as Curriculum Night on September 19th. • Please set aside box/ tub for little reading books. • Phonics based reading program (Fountas & Pinnell) • Everyday Math • Lucy Caulkins Writing (new this year) • Social studies (My World), Health (My Body), and Science (plants, solids and liquids, 5 senses, and rocks)
